In the fourth installment of the Workd Cup series sponsored by the Union Mondiale de Billard (UMB), 150 players from around the world assembled in Portugal to do battle. Taking place from July 18-24 in the city of Porto and organized by the venerable sports organization FC Porto, the event was attended by the world's best including the honored position of the top twelve on the UMB rankings: Frédéric Caudron, Torbjörn Blomdahl, Eddy Merckx, Dick Jaspers, Dani Sánchez, Marco Zanetti, Tayfun Tasdemir, Roland Forthomme, Sameh Sidhom, Dong Koong Kang, Jae Ho Cho and Nikos Polychronopoulos.

David Martinez of Spain has posted his best result yet in his young billiard career in winning the Spanish Grand Prix. With this victory Martinez moves up in rankings among Spanish players to 3rd position. His tournament showed both his tenacity to overcome a slow start, and his billiard skills to beat Spain's best.

Repeating his performance in 2015, Ramon Rodriguez has once again landed on top as the number one 3-cushion player in Peru. His win came in dramatic fashion as the final match of the 2016 tournament ended in a 40-40 tie and had to go to the shoot-out. After 32 innings, his opponent Jose Torreblanca was only able to make one from the spots, while Ramon scored the two he needed to capture his thirteenth title overall.

For the third time in a row Rui Costa has won the three cushion national championship of Portugal. This was also the sixth time the 56-year-old player has taken the title demonstrating he is clearly Portugal's best.
