Three cushion billiards is alive and well in the Pacific Northwest. And once again the Tacoma Elks Club has demonstrated its consistent support and love for the game in the form of the annual Mike Fahey Memorial Tournament. Here is a quick re-cap on this USBA handicapped event and some updates on upcoming activities from tournament director Tim Poole.

The 2016 Verhoeven began August 1, 2016. Held at Carom Cafe Billiards in Flushing New York, the event brings the world's best players to the United States to battle for six days. The champion will take home the trophy and the $9,000.00 first place prize. The event attracted 105 players this year (plus five seeded entrants) and will be held in three stages: First the 105-player preliminary qualifications, followed by the 40-player semi-finals (both in round robin format,) and finally a 16-man finals in single elimination knock-out format. Another great 3-cushion billiard room in Houston Texas - Huy Hoang Billiard - has jumped onto the tournament bandwagon. Tan Ho the owner of Huy Hoang (also known as "HH") held an open handicapped tournament on July 30, 2016. With 6 recently re-covered Gabriels tables, the players turned out for a great day of billiards and friendship. The winner was A-player Miguel Candon, who is visiting Houston from Venezuela for the summer. Miguel has been making the rounds to some of the local three cushion rooms in town and has made quite an impression with the local players! Second place went to C-player Chau D, third went to top B-player Jorge Gonzales and 4th to the ever dangerous C-player Jay Karahan. (Pictured above L to R - Jay, Jorge, Miguel and Chau.)

On Saturday July 9 twelve players met at Bida Goodays in Houston Texas for another B & C player handicapped event. First place went to Toan Ton playing out of the C group who defeated another C player Fernando Corrales in the final. Pictured above are the final four (L to R) Vu Nguyen and Minh Nguyen who shared third/fourth place, Toan Ton the winner and second place finisher Fernando Corrales.
